Re: butoh classes in the bay area?
Wed, December 20, 2006 - 7:40 PMcheck out www.butohsf.org for a tri-monthly calendar on classes, performances and workshops given by our local butoh artists.
recommendations:
Hiroko Tamano in the East Bay
Sherwood Chen (starting a new Bodyweather series in Jan i think. Min Tanaka's work. also we're trying to get him to lead a manipulations class too)
Molly Barrons in the Mission
Paige Sorvillo at Temescal
also, Anna Halprin in Marin isn't exactly butoh, but her work is empathetic with the core of butoh philosophy. she also gets along really well with butoh dancers. it's a good base for movement. more nutty crunchy new agey scene though and several butoh people despise the scene for some reason. but Halprin herself is a legend.
uh...that said, i guess i should update that calendar now...oops
